Sometimes you don’t need a file — you just want the text on your clipboard so you can paste it straight into a notes app, a document, an email, or an AI tool. Here’s the fastest way to do that.
Step-by-Step: Copying a YouTube Transcript
- Paste your YouTube video link into YT Transcript and click “Get Transcript.” (New to this? See our guide on how to get a YouTube transcript first.)
- Once the transcript appears, look for the “Copy Transcript” button above the text.
- Click it. The button will briefly change to confirm it’s copied.
- Go to wherever you want the text — a notes app, a document, a chat window — and paste as usual (Ctrl+V on Windows, Cmd+V on Mac).
Only Need Part of the Transcript?
The Copy button grabs the entire transcript. If you only want a specific section — say, one quote or one paragraph — use the search box above the transcript to jump to that part, then manually select just the text you need with your mouse or trackpad and copy it the normal way (Ctrl+C / Cmd+C).
What People Usually Do With a Copied Transcript
- Paste it into an AI tool like ChatGPT or Claude and ask for a summary, key points, or a quiz based on the video.
- Drop it into your notes app so it’s searchable alongside your other notes.
- Paste it into a document as the starting point for a blog post, article, or show notes.
- Email a quote or section to a colleague without needing to send a video link and timestamp.
Copy Button Not Working?
If clicking “Copy Transcript” doesn’t seem to do anything, your browser may be blocking clipboard access (this can happen in some privacy-focused browser settings). As a fallback, click anywhere inside the transcript box, select all the text manually, and copy it the standard way with Ctrl+C or Cmd+C.
